A Friday Winner To Sign Off 22/23 Season With!
We were delighted to end the 22/23 season with a winner on the penultimate day with Good Friday Fairy bolting up in the 2 mile maiden hurdle at Chepstow.
He is still very new to us having purchased him in February from Ireland. Although falling on both of his starts in PtP’s, I very much liked his willing attitude and I thought that he looked far from slow. He’s a very enthusiastic horse who loves his work, and it took us a bumper run and a novice hurdle start for us to learn he’s better off using that enthusiastic galloping style rather than trying to contain it. He took a big step forward when 2nd in a maiden hurdle earlier in February, but he took another nice step forward when winning as he liked under Ben Jones last time out. He might have 1 more run and then the field and a well earned break beckons.
Any horse that has his level of enthusiasm for his job is a favourite of mine!!
When I reflect on the 22/23 season I’m very pleased with what we achieved. We had 11 winners from just 61 runners at an 18% strike rate and half our runners finishing in the first four. We had our first runners at the Cheltenham festival with Endless Escape being beaten barely 10 lengths. The Galloping Bear finishing 2nd in the Eider attempting to what now looks an impossible task, giving Kitty’s Light 8lb!!
There were normal frustrations through the year with annoying injuries or weather not behaving! But I’m very pleased with what we achieved but am already in the process of bolstering our team further with some nice horses, ready to make the 23/24 season even better.
Big thanks to all of my owners, we had some great days last season with more to come! And to Sally who has to put up with me 24/7 complaining about the weather or the ground all winter! And Katie who travels all round the country with me racing!
